"That franchise" won't come back. But in the settlement of the lawsuit that allowed the Sonics to move to OKC and become The Thunder, Seattle got to keep the rights to the name "Supersonics", named after a Boeing airplane they never ended up making.

I am a huge Sonics fan from Minnesota and can't wait for the day when Seattle gets another team.

I had Sonics season tickets for 16 years - stopped going in the early 2000's. The arena became more of a place where fans came to be seen rather than watch the game. In the mid 80's, you'd see families at the games cheering on their favorite players - families could actually afford lower bowl seats - now families are priced out of the game. The NBA has become a place where wealthy people go to watch wealthy players play for their wealthy owners. They won't get any more of my money, plus there's no way I'd be happy with a relocated franchise, knowing how the fans of the old town will feel losing their team the way we did. A new franchise would be better, but guessing that won't happen.

Strange that David Stern announced his retirement over a year before it is to occur. Who does that? No doubt his hand picked successor has instructions regarding Seatle that will be folllowed to the letter. I'm a big basketball fan, but nonetheless my view is that we were lucky to get rid of the parasitic NBA, and no way I would like to see them come back.
