With all the love I see being spread around here lately, I decided that I AM moving out there from Tennessee after all, does anyone have a problem with gun rack in pickups and pitbulls in the back? (thought I'd bring some southern hospitality).

Surprisingly enough I see more Confederate Flags on cars in Washington than I ever have in most of the South. Gun rack should be fine as we like to hunt a lot here. A lot of cities are starting to ban pitbulls as pets (don't ask me how they are doing it) as a lot of pitbull oriented killings of small children and maulings have taken place in the past couple years that are blared across the local news.

Do you know which cities are banning pit bulls or are attempting to? I know Auburn was either trying or has succeeded. I have a pit bull and I am moving to WA (Tacoma area) so this concerns me. Don't own a flag or a gun so I have no worries there .
In reference to this whole Freeze thing...when I was living in the area recently I didn't find the people too much different than New York City and back East. Overall most people where friendly. One exception is I found the bus drivers to be very rude; they seemed to feel imposed upon when asked directions and information on bus stops. The ones I encountered didn't have any people skills at all.
I visited Spokane to see if I would like moving there and I definately felt like I wouldn't fit in; can't explain it...place just felt depressing to me. Like other's have pointed out in this thread, this "freeze" problem seems to exist in many other places in one form or another.

You might make a few people squeemish here and there but people are pretty cool about that kind of stuff. If you're single, you'll probably not want to bring your bed mounted gun rack.

I have never seen Confederate flags in Washington(I used to live there so I should know). I have seen plenty in the South and hate those ugly flags. The star-spangled banner is my flag.
We digress, so back to the Seatte Freeze discussion. Whatever freeze is in Seattle can be found in other places. I think there is just a defacto trademark on it in Seattle.

I think you should talk to your landlady and remind her you never heard these complaints until just now and if was such a problem as to make an entry in your rental history (?) why didn't she say something two or three complaints ago?

I suppose I'll play the devil's advocate here, because the other side is not represented.
I owned a multiple dwelling building. If you think of what motivated the neighbor who went directly to the landlord with her complaint, that is exactly what I asked my peeps to do.
Today, you never really know what is on the other side of the door if you compain, so you may as well tell the person who gets paid for handling such matters.
The landlord does not know if this is a valid complaint, so when someone does say their neighbor has the music too loud (which most leases ask a person not to do) the landlord comes into the neighbors apartment to verify that.
If my husband and I are in different rooms watching different tv shows and one of us turns his tv off, the other is barely heard. THis is with doors opened in both rooms.
If the landlord does think it is a valid claim, he/she will try to arrange for times when this is permitted, etc, and go to the offending party to try to reach an agreement. The landlord does not divulge the complaining party's name.
I did see a small mike, I believe it was hidden inside a tiny pillow. The idea is that you could have the music really low right in bed with you. I leave the radio on when I sleep at night, but it is very low.
It is hard to control acoustics when you do not own the apartment. I have wall to wall carpeting and tons of books, drapes: all of this buffers noise. You cannot dump insulation in the walls if that is what's needed.
The main thing is that neither tenant leaves, if they are otherwise good tenants, and a confrontation is avoided.

_charles_, how many of the threads have you started there? one third of them? I know my good buddy geometricdisaster has written at least half of what is on the main page there.

Actually I haven't started any there - not one. As far as I know, the new threads on that board get approved by a specific individual or group of individuals before they can be posted.
I think the guy's name (that started shmeng) is Devin or something like that and he now lives in Hawaii - I believe.

I certainly agree with that approach. If you re-read my post, you will see that I was suggesting the OP talk with his landlady, who is the one who received the complaints. It is my opinion that she should have shared this information with the renter after two or so complaints, instead of making a note in his "rental history".
