This also makes me care less about meeting new people or inviting strangers out to do things. I really just dont care. I run into people all the time that want to chat it up forever! and I can tell they are looking for more but I just want them to shut up so I can get away. I think most of my friends are kind of cold like this also.

On the flip side im moving to SC and EVERYONE there is friendly............I mean annoyingly friendly. I find my self avoiding conversations because I dont give a rip about their grand kids or school or what ever lol

sooo maybe I am a typical seattle person?
Yep, you are

Friendly advice for relocating to a different region for the first time: as people on this forum will tell newcomers to Seattle that they need to chill out a bit to fit in... you may want to try humoring the locals just a little bit when you first move there; first of all, you may actually make some friends - since your liftetime social circle will be 2500mi away, this may be nice - and from my experience, in areas where friendly "Southern Hospitality" (or even just anywhere a general sense of neighborly friendliness) is the status quo, snubbing your neighbors may not be the best idea. People keep an eye out for their neighbors... and can turn a blind eye to anyone who isn't neighborly!

LOL yea im not sure what im going to do I have been in SC for about 3 weeks now and the "Southern Hospitality" is driving me up the wall. I had a woman in Charleston the other day stop me on the street and proceed to talk about a bird that was in her neighbors yard for a solid 15min.......atleast 3X a day I find my self in conversations with strangers and I just want to walk away lol I feel like I have been transported to another dimension.

btw 415_S2K ....if S2K is for S2000 I am a fellow S2K/Honda fanatic myself

LOL, Scotty! Well I feel a little better - I'm practically reserved compared to those folks. I only yammer on about things others find irrelevant for about one minute before I notice their eyes glazing over. Here's a secret on how to disengage without snubbing say "I hate to cut this short but I've got to run because Jane is expecting me and I'm already late. You take care now." This works because it clearly isn't a snub of the person talking and if they insist you stay then they are being rude to the unknown third party "Jane". These type of maneuvers are necessary in the Southern culture...some might say it's dishonest but it's of the white lie variety.

As for me, I got cold feet about moving back south when encountering issues about crime and severe conservatism in my research. I'm not sure what I'm going to do now. All I know is my Southern Girl manners are never going to go over very well here in the PacNW. Back to the drawing board.

It sure is! I'm getting an ASM widebody kit put on my AP1 right now I've got a Silverstone on black/red interior. Do you have one? If not, get one. Best car I've ever owned in every way, shape, and form!

Sucks, though: Seattle is the worst in the nation for seat theft on S2000's. The seats in S2000's bolt into any Civic or Integra, and there are a few guys in Seattle that are quite prolific... the cops do nothing about them even though every time someone on the S2000 forum's car is broken into, the seats appear on Craigslist like three hours later If you get it repaired from the dealer, it costs like $10k... mine got hit parked in front of my place in Maple Leaf, and practically everyone with an s2k on the Seattle forums had their car broken into, too.

Oddly enough, even though SF is way more dense and has more crime, it's never been messed with here... *knocks on wood*

What about Austin? Plenty liberal town and it's still in the South (I suppose - I've heard it opined that Texas is more its own place than part of the South, but it's more Southern than WA).

People in CA would most likely find it charming. Most of the people I know down here have a benign-to-positive view of Southerners.

Right on! Going to be picking one up soon myself. I have a EG hatch that is turbo'd right now making close to 350whp. I came to hondas from RX-7s and I miss RWD but dont miss my 96 RX-7s unreliability lol so I think an S2000 will satisfy my reliable RWD needs

I never understood the S2K seat theft here but I have quite a few friends with them and half have had their seats stolen. Hell car theft is insane in WA also it really sucks. On S2KI.com in the NW section all the guys post up adds of S2K seats F/S on CL every day and flag them till they get taken down LOL Hey if they cant keep and add up to sell them they will stop stealing them.......hopefully

Wow! Looks like you are totally having a conversation with a friendly stranger on here. Something that allegedly annoys you in real life but is appropriate on the internet? Maybe you don't like talking about birds or other people's grandkids but that has more to do with the things that interest you than the idea that friendliness and extroversion are inherently annoying traits that some people hold, especially in other parts of the country.

I think the difference is being on the internet vs. interfacing with people in real life. There are many things I want to say in real life that I can't really say because the persons I would say them to are often incognito. Whereas, online, I find plenty of people to ask the hard questions to online(for instance, questions about racial bias, prejudice, etc). I kind find those persons and ask those questions. The problem is, an answer isn't always guaranteed, as the person is behind a computer screen and can ignore the question. In real life, you ask a question and the person must answer.

That small conversation took place over 7 days and at any time I can hit the little red X in the upper right hand corner and never come back. Its at MY leisure, I had the choice to not respond and skip right over the conversation if I felt like it.

Had he been a random person in a store that just decided to accost me with chit chat (yes even about cars which I love) I would have prob given the "I hate to cut this short but I've got to run because Jane is expecting me and I'm already late. You take care now." excuse that was shared with me a few pages back.

......so you take care now, im late for a dinner date and I have to go. Buhh bye

Yeah man, go for it! The S2000's handling is sublime, you start pushing it and then in the middle of a turn you realize you're only using 20% of what it can do and still have 3k RPM to go. I love the FD's, sweet cars, I test drove a '93 Twin Turbo manual and was close to buying it, but worried about the legendary unreliable nature of the things, which was one of the big deciding factors in the S2000. The first time I saw an FD as a kid, I was blown away... and every time I see one, I'm still like, "that is a damn good looking car!"

Now that the whole Fast & Furious craze has died down and the cars are 8-9 years older than they were, I'm seeing some pop up with bad motors for around 5-6k in the Bay and LA areas. I was thinking of getting an Elise to park next to the S2k, but lately I've been thinking of an RX7 with a 2JZ or LS6 swap No more reliability issues plus a gob more torque!

I helped out with that thread when I lived in Seattle Sucks though, I dropped in a few weeks ago and it looks like it's still a problem... however one of my friends' blue seats are still up for sale, nearly 2 years after his car got broken into Guess it's working somewhat.

To keep it somewhat more on topic, when my car was broken into, I went through my building and warned everyone as a matter of proper course (if someone's car had been broken into in my complex I'd prefer to know myself), and when I did this, everyone looked at me with a mixture of fear and annoyance, which I thought was absolutely bizarre.

I mean, sure, no one showed up to our potluck, so I should not have been surprised that people were weirded out that I was, you know, talking to them... but... yeah.

Furthermore, I found out a few months later from a guy who lived in the apartment building that his girlfriend saw my car getting hit and thought something seemed weird, but just sort of shrugged it off. It's like, you live three doors down from me, and I've offered to help you when I've seen you strugging with groceries and your dog. Thanks for being a neighbor

Car theft in WA is really bad. It got broken into two more times in the span I was there, one when it was parked at Virginia Mason - tried to get my new seats but I had them in with a set of special locks, so they just slashed them up - and then someone cut the top and rifled through it (there was nothing of value) on Pill Hill, by the cathedral. My cousin had his RSX stolen and stripped, but they found the guys who did it down in Auburn and dealt a little street justice to them after the cops wouldn't act. Then, his friend saw his S13 on a flatbed on the freeway; the highway patrol pulled them over and they were guys who worked for a tow yard, who would use the flatbed to steal cars and haul them to a warehouse between legit calls. Car theft is NOTHING like that in the Bay Area!
