LOL we get it, you don't like the weather or the people. Why don't you get out of dodge? You sound miserable, and frankly with your attitude, I find delight in that. In fact I am rooting for a nervous breakdown. If I knew you in person, I would act so freezy and passive aggressive, just to get under your skin.

From Dictionary.com: Delusion = a false belief or opinion.
Hence, the strong reaction from those of us who have experienced the Freeze.

So, not having experienced the freeze, my opinion is somehow not valid...?

I've lived all over the US, and also in Europe. And I also experienced the "Seattle Freeze," when I first moved there. I wish I'd known about this article, because I've always made friends pretty easily whereever I've gone and Seattle had me perplexed, everyone was so nice, but not very inviting. Learning about "The Freeze" actually makes me feel better, because I LOVE the area. Also, knowing about it will make it easier to "thaw" those around you, once you just understand where they're coming from. It's not like they hate YOU, it's just about being introverted as a culture. We moved back East a couple of years ago, and here in Eastern Maryland, people aren't that friendly and they are much more likely to hate you just because you're different, because you're not from here, whatever. I've never run into as much blantant hostility, intolerance and narrow-mindedness as I have in this part of the country. I'll take polite Seattle Freeze over closed minded East Coast Icy-ness any day of the week! It's a lot harder to thaw!

I'm working on getting out of here thank you very much. Did the recon trip. Just waiting on the job offer. BTW, I doubt you'd have to "act so freezy and passive aggressive." I'll bet you do a bang up job of it by just being yourself. Oh, and in typical, PacNW style, just so you feel at home: "Have a nice day. Now please go away."

Actually I am not the freezy type, other than I don't like small talk and I don't greet every passerby in the street. But around you, yes.

NO, your opinion is totally valid when you stick to describing your experience.
It is when you say, "It doesn't exist because I haven't personally experienced it" that others are going to react negatively to your assertion.

It is really no different than saying it exists because "I have experienced it".
Fine, we will just have to agree to disagree. I stand by my opinion on the matter...

Moved to Sammamish from Austin, TX last summer. I am used to friendly Texans and in general, I am very outgoing and put myself out there. I did not experience the freeze personally though I have met people who did in areas closer into town (Clyde Hill and Laurelhurst for example). We have a very bonded neighborhood that was welcoming and I have made many friends in the past year. Now Sammamish is not Seattle, I am well aware, but you can live here and work in Seattle. I would speculate that this side of town is friendly because of the amount of Microsofties that move in/out and are used to making/welcoming new friends and also that Sammamish has a large of amount of young kids and young families eager to create bonds. I do notice that people here are much more reserved than Texans but are on par with the people I met in Denver when I lived there. I was almost scared off by the Seattle Freeze thread but fortunately for me, it didn't pan out. As someone on this thread pointed out last summer, you can find nice people and mean people wherever you go. I agree.

I think it's the San Antonio thing, but I've not experienced the freeze.
I've adapted fantastically to things here and know most of my neighbors. Maybe it's the East of I-5 thing-- Central District and Capitol Hill seem to be pretty friendly.
