That was hilarious - I now know what a Jaigerbomb is! No, that's not really the kind of energy I have in mind, but just because you don't have a subdued, introverted population, you don't necessarily have that either. I've been to Cranston, RI so I am familiar with the type, but again, there's a difference between being engaged and being obnoxious.
Yahh, there is a deference, but if you had to choose between someone saying "well, that's nice..." and just walking away quietly and someone saying....
"YAHH! MY COLLARS POPPED! 'CAUSE I'M THE MOTHER F^^^^^^^IN' MAN, AND EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW IT!"
which would you choose?
If Portland doesn't pan-out, I'll go to Seattle as a plan-B, and I'm not that conserned with the freeze thing. As long as I get into structured activities, like getting back into Judo and finding a group of Dungeons and Dragons players ( no nerd jokes please) I don't think it will be THAT bad.
LOL that video is priceless. WHERE'S THE GOD DAMN PROTEIN MA?! I am trying not to bust up laughing at work.
I once saw a thread on a different message board that had this title:
Guidos - should they be ethnically cleansed?
Guido is not a ethnicity, but a state of mind. Half the guidoes around here aren't even Italian... you have guAsians, latiDOES, jewDOES and GUIDican Americans.
Everyonebody goes to da' gym to "get their swell on, URRR!"
Seattle is definitely NOT live and let live, and tends to be "open minded, liberal and progressive" if you are also like-minded, liberal, open-minded and progressive....
And the constant evaluation about whether you are liberal in the "right" way gets old. When we moved from Seattle to the East Side, we got grief from our Seattle friends who were under the impression that the East Side recycling programs were inferior to their own. Argggghhh!
Unless, you are going to an Obama rally, people are not particularly enthusiastic about anything out in public. Some people like it that way and more power to them.
I've noticed this as well. Even if you see or mention something that would warrant some type of concern, you don't get it. Mention that you saw a school bus wreck on the way to work or that your mother passed away and you'll get the "Gee, that's too bad" comment with all the interest of someone who spilled his cheetos on the floor. "Gee, that's too bad." If it doesn't affect them personally, they don't care. No real empathy for others: like swatting a fly off your arm. You'd have to experience this sort of attitude to get what I'm sayin'.

What would you suggest...wailing and gnashing of teeth, screaming for Jesus...praying in tongues, flailing arms about...?
Just because people here may be more reserved than in other areas of the country does not mean that we have no empathy for others.

Uh, when discussing life-and-death situations, I would think there is a happy middle way between "lack of appropriate empathy and concern" and "state of psychotic emotional frenzy." For some reason, people keep jumping to the extremes in defending Seattle reserve.

Seattle might not be bible thumpers, but it's also not "live and let live". Neighbors'll be calling the authorities instantly if they see you mixing trash with recyclables.
Oh, so they care about keeping the planet habitable for future generations, I see.
This is a problem?
