According to School Digger.com, Bothell HS is now ranked the 7th best HS in Washington State. I can see they have made progress in all areas of their test results for 2012, but to jump 32 places into 7th place...WOW! Sustainable or not, way to go Bothell!

Test results are one thing. Kids who are intellectually curious and passionate about learning is quite another. Not saying Bothell doesn't offer that (I don't know anything about the school today personally), but I think rankings based on test scores alone is a really bad idea.

I completely agree with you. Every kid is different. A school that is rated very highly based on test scores might be fine if your child thrives under academic pressure. But not every child thrives in such an environment, and lots of kids who are intellectually curious and passionate about learning just don't test well. Also, some school districts feel that it's important to look good, so they focus a lot of energy on "teaching to the test" at the expense of catering to the kid's passion for learning.

Most of the schools on the list I have heard of but a few I have not (Battle Ground???). A few also jumped significantly from one year to the next on this list and that would cause me to question why? And a few are not quite apples to apples comparison as the grade levels don't mesh well but maybe that doesn't affect the HS data. Lastly, I'd probably cross compare to a few other websites, lists as a starting point. Generally speaking though...this list seems relatively true to the perceived good schools that I know of in the state. You might also look at it from a School District standpoint.

Battle Ground is a Vancouver (WA) suburb. I was bemused to see that BG school be ranked that highly; My SIL is homeschooling her kids because (according to her), the (BG) SD is just sub-standard. I wonder what she would say now.
