Ah, I didn't realize there were areas that had TJs every couple miles. Definitely not here... I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

But people in North Seattle already have several options that are relatively close like Ballard, Madison (Park), and Queen Anne. I for one don't get why there's only one southern location in Seattle Proper. I think a TJ in Columbia City/Seward Park area would do very well.

For me, if it weren't for Burien, I'd have to travel either way 13 miles to Federal Way or to Seattle (West Seattle being the closest).

Yes, in L.A. they seemed to have taken the Starbucks approach (i.e. opening a new Starbucks inside the bathroom of another Starbucks). I didn't think that was a California thing, I thought it was a Trader Joe's strategy thing, which is why I was surprised to see only one.

I'm not sure where in Seattle you are, but what about Ballard Market? It's right by the Fred Meyer here and I pretty much only buy my produce there. Meat can get pretty expensive, but they usually have some good deals each week. I usually get one of those small double decker carts, with the top filled with produce and spices (they have that and a bunch of other items that you can buy just what you need) and get out of there for about $25 each time. Can't complain about getting enough spices for the month for sometimes under $1.

Freddie's is great... make sure to use your Rewards card and take advantage of the coupons and sale. One time I got super lucky, I won the Reward card "lottery" and they paid 93 dollars for my shopping... Needless to say, I was super-thrilled.

U District already has Trader Joe's, so why would they need another one in that general area?
I like winco though many people think you get a lower class of people there shopping, kind of like walmart, but the employees there are nice and helpful. Its a good value.

you just have to find the right hours to hit WINCO.....I avoid it lst of the month, too. A cart of groceries there costs as much as a little basket at Safeway.

Yeah it was guessed correctly, I'm Northeast up in Lake City. I think I'll go to Fred Meyer mostly, I checked out Grocery Outlet and they have some good deals and some organics but not too much that interests me unfortunately. I at first was a little worried at the amount of money my groceries were costing, now I'm thinking perhaps some items are taxed more than I am used to. What is taxable here? I noticed I had to pay higher taxes on dog food and alcohol than I'm uesd to. When do the farmer's markets come back to the Northeast area? Where is the WINCO you are speaking of, Federal Way?

Second that. Both parts of that. We have them down here as well, although I was first exposed to them in the Seattle area. I went shopping yesterday and it was definitely the low-class shoppers hour. At least the store here, however, it's unique in that it really does hit every social demographic. Usually on Sundays I'm earlier which means its the after church crowd. They might not be wealthy, but they buy things that are recognizable as vegetables. Today was earl afternoon... I didn't realize how busy it was until I hit the frozen food section. Oh gawd. It also looked like the once a month or every other week shoppers. Except the guys buying a 12 pack of industrial sized jars to cure their bud in and a pack of beer.

Extra hilarious because I was taking grandma shopping who will talk to anyone... and really wanted to know what those nice boys were buying those jars for. =D
