i actually don't speed as much as most people but sometimes i do...and yeah, i got caught. i was driving to church this morning on the 520 bridge and the cop said that i was going 68 in a 50 zone.

i don't think i was actually going that fast because i was driving behind a mini cooper and we were both driving at a regular pace. but whatever, i didn't argue or anything like that.

in any case, the cop came out of his hiding place as soon as we passed him and then came up right behind me and stuck behind me until we crossed over the bridge. once on the other side of the bridge, he turned on his sirens so i pulled over. maybe he pulled me over because he didn't like my CA license plates or whatever.

ticket says that the fine is $175.

i don't really know how the laws work here. i haven't received a moving violation in about 15 years.

1) can i go to traffic school and get the point removed from my driving record?
2) can i get a lawyer and get this taken off my record so my insurance doesn't go up? reducing the fine would be nice too i guess.

i'm not a big fan of traffic cops so i don't feel like just paying for it. i don't really care about the money but i just don't like cops and if this annoys him, then i'm happy. i don't feel like going through the hassle of fighting it in court though where i have to take time out of my schedule to show up, etc. any lawyer recommendations to get them to do all the work for me?

RVD.

Many local CDL and other professional drivers use this guy. I used him years ago and he is good (click here and here for a few reviews).

However, you may not need a lawyer unless you do have a CDL to protect as retaining an attorney for a simple speeding ticket isn't the most cost effective thing to do. Sure, if you're fighting it on principle and don't mind spending money, it may be worth it. If you take it to court yourself, it's usually given that you can at least get the fine reduced.

And no, the trooper who issued the ticket doesn't care one way or the other if you contest it. They're use to it and it doesn't bother them in the least so if your goal is to annoy or irritate the trooper by taking it to court, you can forget that.

I can't comment on points, traffic school, or anything else as it's now been so long since I've been through all that (knock on wood).

Good luck. I know first hand how you must be feeling.

Before you try to beat that ticket, how long have you been here? The law requires you to get WA plates and driver license within 30 days of moving here. Going to court could end up getting you additional fines. I was able to have my last speeding ticket removed without going to traffic school, just paid the fine and had to go without any other tickets for one year, due to my good record. I didn't have to apply for it, but got a letter with the offer in the mail. I would guess that such deals would apply to state residents,

I know someone who used this guy. He beat the ticket but my friend still had to pay the attorney $250. Overall I guess it's worth it.

I've been here for 4 months on and off. I think I still legally live in CA since that is where my permanent address is, where my paychecks are sent, where I own a house, etc. I have been living in various temporary housing type arrangements here for the past 4 months. However, I am moving into a more permanent house in 2 weeks (rental) so plan to establish residency and get my car licensed there, etc.

I don't mind paying the attorney fee.

No, I didn't tell the guy that I was going to church.

Looks like I'll be reaching out to Doug Silva.

I don't really want to show up in court in person. I just get really irritated and annoyed if I have to deal with stupid people so I try to avoid those situations as much as possible (although they seem to find me a lot).

Doug Silva rocks. He did his magic and got me out of it.

Got another ticket though...am using him again so we'll see if it works again.

...or maybe I'll stop speeding...

Let's not forget, YOU were the one traveling 18 mph above the posted speed limit.

This situation didn't find you, you found it.
