Need to find a no kill shelter or need some advice, please!
So, I got home tonight, and there was a kitty walking up the street towards me. I've seen him at a distance once or twice before. He was meowing quite loudly, and approached me, and rubbed against me. He tried to follow me into my house.
I ran into the house and got some food (we have two cats), and came back out and he was still on my porch. I fed him, and he was obviously quite starving (he ate about a 1/2 cup of dry cat food). He was very loving, but obviously a bit sketchy, any time a car drove by he stopped eating and looked very alert, and any time the wind kicked up leaves he'd be very alert again.
He has no collar, and he's missing most of his tail, but that doesn't seem to be a recent injury.
He ate and ate, and my husband came out on the porch, and the cat even flopped and showed his belly to my husband. He's obviously belonged to someone at some point, but every bite of food he took he death shook, so it seems he's been eating outdoors for a while.
We discerned he has no claws, so we decided to put him into our garage for the night. I'm pregnant and hormonal, and I just sobbed and sobbed that someone could abandon their kitty when it's so cold and rainy out.
If we didn't already have 2 cats and a baby on the way, I'd just keep this kitty, but we can't.
I don't want to let him back outside without claws, that's a death sentence, but I'm afraid the pound would be a death sentence, too.
I'm hoping to find him a no kill shelter, or looking for anyone with any advice or ideas on what to do with him (actually he might be a her).
Can anyone help me?
Thanks!
V. =)

Poor kitty Hopefully you can find him/her a good home...anyway, there are several no-kill shelters around Seattle...If you do a google search on "no-kill animal shelters near seattle, wa" you should get quite a few results, some of which are:
MEOW Cat Rescue Organization (Kirkland, I've heard a lot about this one)
Homeward Pet Adoption Center (Woodinville)
Animal rescue, rehabilitation, and education - The Furrytale Farm (Bainbridge Island)
Welcome to Animal Talk Rescue (Seattle)
Pasado's Safe Haven (Sultan, but I think this may only be for abused animals?)
Anyway, hope that helps, unless you have friends or family that want a cat!
P.S. Congrats on the little one on the way

We've fostered a couple of litters of kittens for Animal Talk. Nice people.

No "Seattle Freeze" here on this board. The care and concern here for this little one has really warmed my heart this morning.

Seattlites love their animals, and are willing to get behind just about any "cause".
Also, you could adopt him out on craigslist - just check a vet reference and ask a small rehoming fee. The CL pet section is very active.
A lot of the times, the shelters and rescue groups are totally full - but will often take them in if you are willing to foster him/her.
I also used to foster for Animal Talk - I can concur they are very nice.

Thanks everyone, we're going to take him to the vet to see if he's micro chipped, and I put a lost and found message on Craig's List for him, and if we can't find his original owners, we will try to find him a home.
We can't really foster him at this point, as I'm about to have a baby, and we already have 2 cats, one with behavioral problems from our move here, so hopefully we can find something soon!
