Reminds me of the difference between the French and the English in meeting and dealing with indigenous people. The French were observers and picked up native ways. The English were "God's chosen people" and felt no need to learn about lesser cultures. Surprise, the French got further. Americans who took English ways as biblical fought wars for several hundred years. They prejudged the indigenous reaction to them and then projected that on any group of indigenous people they met. Friendly ones were servile. Unfriendly ones were savages. And so it goes. Some things never end. Now its people moving into the Pacific Northwest and projecting things on the locals.

I think this thread needs the insights of some French Canadians...maybe they can clear up the confusion on the "Seattle freeze" that has been unfairly projected on the indigenous people of Seattle according to local tribe leader beenhere4ever.
