I'm moving out there 5/1, and I've just recently (the last couple months) gotten back into going the gym most days, and don't want to fall out of the habit while I'm apartment hunting. I also don't want to commit to anywhere for a year contract since I'm not sure exactly where I'll be living.

(Also, I'm sure some will give the standard 'Just exercise outside! Its going to be beautiful here...go for a run!' response. I would LOVE to do that, however, due to a foot injury, I really need access to a gym).

Anyone know of anywhere on Capitol Hill that does month-to-month or short-term type deals?

The 24hour fitness st Stewart and Denny does month to month and is really cheap anyway. It's just at the bottom of the hill, so you have to walk back up when you're done, so keep that in mind when running on the treadmill :-)

Thanks! I'll check that one out. Most gym websites don't have any of the membership specifics, so to get details I'd have to call/visit them, and that always comes with the high-pressure sales pitch.

don't know, 24hour fitness might be a little different in that respect, they're a very large chain I think, at least in this area. The gym can get busy at times but it's large with a lot of equipment, so usually you never have to line-up, even at peak times. Classes are included as well. I've never been to any but my wife seemed happy with them..

I go to Gold's. They're not as cheap as 24 hr, but the location is better (for me), and I like them. They do require 30 days notice in writing to cancel.

I'm actually going to be working from home (i.e, from my friends Cap Hill apartment until I find my own hopefully Cap Hill apartment), so I plan on going in the middle of the day. Hopefully I won't have to deal much with peak times at all (assuming that 'peak times' is a pretty universal time frame for before and after the work day).

I moved to Cap Hill/CD border about 2 mos ago. I work out at 24hr fitness because I had a membership before I moved here. It's a serious pain to get down there from where I live (more east around 18th/19th). The parking garage is only free 6-8am and 5-10 pm. Traffic can be horrendous getting down there. The YMCA is closer to me at 23rd and Olive (I think), much, much, much easier to get to with parking. Golds for me wouldn't be that much easier to get to and has restricted hours for free parking. There is a small gym by the Trader Joes called Anytime Fitness that is higher in price than 24 Hr.
