Good Hispanic Neighborhoods
Hola!
My family will be moving to Seattle from Texas at the beginning of next year to be closer to family in the Tri Cities. Where is a good place in Seattle for a Hispanic family to raise kids? I am Mexican American and my wife is from Mexico. We have two boys age 13 and 14. My wife speaks mostly Spanish and would prefer to live in an area with other Spanish speakers, but not in a bad area. Also a place with strong Catholic church and good schools that's not too expensive. Can you help out and suggest a good place?
Thank you,
Javiero

Kent has a good sized latino population. Burien does also. I don't know about the schools but they are both pretty inexpensive areas. I have lived in both and preferred Kent. Despite the overblown horror stories on here Kent is a nice place. It has some run down parts, but just do your research and things should be fine.

The Crossroads neighborhood in Bellevue has a large Lationo population. I don't know about churches since I am anti-christian, but the school district is very good, and the subsidized housing where most of them live is not ghetto at all.

I would agree with toughguy. Crossroads is a great place not just for Latinos, but for all sorts of ethnic newcomers. It wouldn't be a far stretch to call Crossroads the "Brooklyn" of Bellevue, as many immigrant groups have settled into the area, Russian, Indian, Chinese, and Latino.

We're all pretty mixed up around here. I don't think there are really any Hispanic neighborhoods with mostly Spanish speaking people. Meaning, I do not believe you'll find the same type of neighborhoods that you have in Texas.

You will see lots of diversity; however, much fewer Mexican communities here in W WA than in TX. If you want real authentic restaurant/store, you will find it at El Compadre on McKinley Ave in Tacoma.
