Bainbridge or Edmonds.

Laurelhurst? Shoreline? Seward Park? It depends on what you consider "quality of life". Rural? The San Juan Islands, definitely. Semi-rural, but close to city amenities? Bainbridge Island. In-city? The ones I mentioned.

Okay, commute is not an issue. But is money an issue? If money's not an issue and I wanted to stay within the city limits, West Seattle would be right up there. But so would Madison Park, or one of those lovely old houses in Madrona, Leschi, or Mt. Baker. Magnolia is unappreciated.
Outside of Seattle? The Cougar Mountain area, they mostly have addresses in Issaquah, but also Newcastle, Renton, and Bellevue. Some expansive, gorgeous views.
I agree about Langley on Whidbey Island. So pretty. Plus a couple of good restaurants and a good pizza place, what more do you need?

Magnolia is great! Nice little shopping area. Small-town feel, even though it's in Seattle. Anyplace located right on the water like that (like parts of Laurelhurst and Seward Park) gets my vote.
The thing about Madrona, though, is that while it's a very nice neighborhood, it's surrounded by higher-crime areas. There are better options for the OP. Actually, the same could be said of Seward Park, so scratch that one off the list.

@Ira500 - I'm still trying to get a feel for rent rates to figure out when money becomes an issue for me. I'm currently renting too much house for just me here in Newport, and paying $1500 (mostly because I didn't really have a plethora of options when I moved here). Although, if I go down a bit in rent, that's more money for activities and taking classes that interest me - so that might be good too. So much to research and so many decisions :-)

haha! You won't get "too much" anything for $1500 in Seattle! That'll get you a 2 br. apt. Check Craigslist for the areas recommended here, then get back to us.

@Ruth4Truth - thanks. I'd be happy going down to a 1 bedroom or even a studio actually, less to clean weekly - lol

Magnolia or Bainbridge Island. Or maybe West Seattle, near the beach. Now that we've established that you'll be renting, not buying.

Oh, oops - sorry about that. Yes, I'm looking to rent and not purchase a home.
