My husband works over there. It's not unsafe, it just has no personality whatsoever. Apartment complexes surrounded by strip malls, fast food, gas stations.

In contrast, downtown Kirkland is lively and trendy, a happening place.

I think Totem Lake has a certain urban-ness that I find appealing, and there are weird gems to find over there (like a Bollywood cinema near the Trader Joes).

Bwahahaha! That's funny. The traffic in the Puget Sound area SUCKS no matter where you live. Sorry. The WDOS can't figure out how to make traffic lighter. They think building more highways will help.

hmmm... well, I'm not a stranger to the whims of traffic I guess. When I used to live in LA, I lived 8 miles from my office. If I left the house by 7:10am, it took me 10 to 15 minutes depending on the lights. After 7:10 to about 9:45 - it was 1 hour and 15 minutes. At night, if I left the office by 4pm it took about 20 minutes. After 4pm until 7pm it was 1 hour 30 minutes. Needless to say, I worked an earlier shift whenever I could :-)

Well, I've been doing a ton of research online looking at areas. Sadly, I keep finding places that by the time you add in parking they are pushing the same amount of rent per month I'm spending now.

I've been reading all these recommendations, and trying to figure out the quality of life I want to have. I don't want to get back in a situation where I'm stressing constantly about working to support myself - as I left that behind in the corporate world along with the 12+ hour work days. So I realize I have a trade off between amount spent on rent and being where the "action" is :-)

There have been some recommendations about going north of Seattle. Would I typically find the rent being lower up there?

I do want to get out and meet people, maybe even break through the "freeze" and make friends - lol. I've gone through every meetup group and marked a number I'd be interesting in, but it looks like their activities are all in either Seattle proper or the Eastside. If I lived further out, how realistic would it be to join in these activities?

So many choices... it can get overwhelming to be sure....
