I'm doing alright living car-free right now in Seattle. But once Metro makes it's huge service cuts next year, I'll be using my car everyday won't look back. Except for the places I can easily walk to.

My bus is on the elimination list but I can manage by driving an extra 3 miles to a farther park & ride.

It's definitely possible! In fact, as others have said, it would probably be easier not to have a car in some neighborhoods. Downtown itself isn't the most residential area. Maybe check out the International District, First Hill, Capitol Hill, and South Lake Union neighborhoods. Or if you've got the budget, there are some higher-end apartment/condo towers in downtown.

I lived in Seattle for 5 years without a car and enjoyed it. The main drawbacks were difficulty get out of town (solution: join a Meetup group that goes hiking/does outdoor things) and being limited to what I could carry when grocery shopping (solution: get a Zipcar once in a while for bigger errands).

car free for me. The work sponsored orca card (50% off 4.75 unlimited fares) , then you take into account the car tab fees and outrageous parking makes it a no brainer.
