Graphic design is definitely in high demand in the Seattle area. I was charged with finding a graphic designer for my company's marketing department. I contacted the local schools so that recent grads could get in touch with me. 4 out of 5 of the interviewees called right before they were supposed to come in and told me that they already found a job!

WOW really? Ok, Im thinking Seattle is our place. ha ha. Its kind of hard to do anything creative around here. Detroit has a small art scene but its limited and then of course our economy is terrible. I appreciate everyone being so helpful Thanks!

The young lady we hired for our 3 month contract job found a job that is now paying her $45,000/year (good for her , but bad for us ). The way she described it, that figure is the highest out of her graduating class from Seattle Art Institute. So it seems like that is really high for grads with a 2-year art degree.

Just an FYI; hope it helps.

Wow, that is pretty good for a 2 yr degree. She must be quite talented. Do you have any thoughts on the city of Everett? I have been looking at comments and some seem to dislike the area because its blue collar. I live in a blue collar city here and although there are some things I dislike, Im wondering if being blue collar has a stigma out there. My husband is skilled trades and there is no changing that.

Seattle has a very strong graphic design scene. Check with the Seattle Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Design (AIGA) for upcoming networking opportunities and their job list. As a current design student, you could join for a very low cost and do some networking before you arrive.

Good luck!

Lynn
