Traffic can be pretty awful, it's true, and rents/housing costs are pretty high.

It really depends on where you live. As you get closer to the center of town if gets steeper, naturally. But living near downtown means, for a lot of folks, you can take a brief bus ride or even walk to work, which a lot of people find worth it...

Cost. of. living.... far away from family.. and most of the country for that matter... impossible to find direct flight to Mexico City (visit the in-laws). Personally I would like a little more snow each winter, but that's getting really petty.

You couldn't find any negatives on the weather thread, or the Seattle Freeze thread?

Grey and wet weather. People are unfriendly. The city generally, with rare exception, doesn't attract world-class entertainment, and there's not as much variety in the entertainment as in, say, San Francisco Bay Area or NYC. Only 1 small jazz club. There just isn't that much to do in town. Many people who live in Seattle are there because of out-of-town activities, specifically hiking, boating, camping.

Regarding traffic, Seattle and the San Fran Bay Area are the rank as the top two metro areas for traffic bottlenecks. The bridges in Seattle, and poorly-designed arterials around town create congestions. Not to mention the bridges across Lake Washington.

Personally, I've always been unconcerned by traffic, because I've always used public transportation in both Seattle and the Bay Area. I was merely reporting the results of some studies that were done, to support some of the other posts.

Rains 365 days a year, traffic 24 hours a day, nobody will ever talk to you, housing is outrageously expensive, summers are horrible, crime ridden - stay away, you'll hate it!
