I pay a lot of taxes in King County, and I couldn't be happier to subsidize the higher minimum wage and "various safety net programs." I want my taxes to support education, public transit, and the social safety net.

I lived in London for years, where the people fund massive transit infrastructure, social housing, and universal health care as a matter of course. Taxes also support the arts in a big way on the national level and the local level.

In my lifetime, I hope to see the USA reach the same level of concern for our fellow citizens and willingness to fund a robust safety net.

switcheroo.

I asked if bus riders should be taxed to subsidize walkers or those who stay at home. Not whether a gas tax is more appropriate than a sales tax.

Those who ride the bus have the benefit of no parking cost, and in the case of long bus rides, time to read or surf their I-phones, and the side benefit of socializing with fellow riders. Why not a tax on bus riders, the proceeds to be turned over to walkers and those who stay at home?

Not possible, how does one prove that they walk to work or stay at home?
