It was neat because we all bonded quickly. The sanctuary trek was an all day adventure. On the way back, one lady from Toronto said "hey let's all go back to our hotel rooms, shower up and meet up for dinner and drinks at 8pm." The entire group did just that. But it caught me off guard!!! I'm thinking to myself, this would NEVER happen in Seattle LOL. It made me chuckle because yes I'm of Nordic heritage so perhaps I'm part of the problem and not the solution back home? Frankly, it made me a bit uncomfortable because these types of open ended social invites and interaction rarely happen here. I had to step out of my comfort zone and at the end of the night, I'm glad I did because we had a blast.
Nice share.

We can best appreciate & understand our own culture when we step away to view it from outside.

Just back from a five-day visit so I can't comment on what it's like to live there, but we really enjoyed our time in the city. While we did not really meet any locals outside of stores, restaurants, and museums/other sites, those we did encounter were nice to a fault. Very friendly and helpful and not just in touristy places as we like to go off the beaten path as well.

It most likely has happened in Seattle... among groups of tourists visiting from faraway places, just as you and your spouse were doing in Thailand.

I've never lived in Seattle, just visited a few times, so can't speak from enough experience to even choose a side in the Freeze-or-no-Freeze debate... but felt like pointing out that visiting a place on a tour, and living there, are very different situations.
