Hi guys,

Thank you SO much for the input, I greatly appreciate it. Figuring out where to live is definitely a daunting task. In regards to the Renton - Fairwood area - is this generally a safe area? Are there good schools around there? how long does it take for you to commute from Tacoma to Renton on the drive home in the evening?

Thank you!!!

Renton and Fairwood are safe. There are a couple of areas within Renton that are less nice. If you have a Renton address, you could be in one of four different school districts. The Renton school district is generally mediocre, with a few pretty good schools and a few bad ones. They seem to be getting slowly better. The eastern part of the Renton Highlands is in the very good Issaquah school district, and there's a little piece in the very good Tahoma (Maple Valley), and Fairwood is in the Kent district. There are a couple of developments outside of Fairwood, but also in the Kent district. The schools with Renton addresses but in the Kent district are good.
The commute to Tacoma from either Fairwood or the eastern Renton Highlands will mostly be around 35-45 minutes.

We chose Renton address in the Kent school district, as it is central to most of what we need around here. Maple Valley was a serious consideration that was just a little more rural. Tahoma Schools were good as well. The evening commute from Tacoma back to this area is between 30 and 45 minutes most nights. When you start to look, keep a close eye on the school district lines. Some really nice houses are available in nice neighborhoods, but they end up going to schools that are ranked very low. Schools were a large consideration for us..
