Is Denver really that far to the mountains? I haven't been there since I was a kid. Looking at the maps, it looks like Veil is 1 hour 39 minutes from downtown. That's about the same distance that it takes to go from Seattle to the Stevens Pass or Crystal Mountain resorts.

The look of Denver is flat and brown and while the drive is not hugely far, Seattle feels surrounded by mountains and water while Denver feels somewhat Kansas-like. I grew up in Denver but somehow forgot that. Also, it might be easy to take our beautiful surroundings for granted, how you can casually look over at Lake Washington or drive across the Evergreen Floating Bridge. When we were in Denver, we missed being surrounded by all that water. We didn't stay much over a year, leaving a brand new house. The market was a lot better then so you could do that.

Seacove, how are the politics out in Denver? I hear that Boulder is pretty granola, but that Colorado Springs is very social conservative.

Boulder is granola, Denver IMO is pretty purple. Colorado Springs is definitely more conservative, religious, tea party, etc. I thought Highlands Ranch was pretty conservative too and it may be that the further south you go from Denver, the more conservative it gets until you get to Colorado Springs. Maybe Castle Rock is more conservative than Highlands Ranch but less than Colorado Springs? Colorado Springs is pretty evangelical and has the headquarters for Focus on the Family.

No place in America is as beautiful as Seattle, which is why it would be a shame to have to leave. I don't want to move to Dallas or Houston...hot, draconian drug laws and miles and miles away from any outdoorsy stuff. People may be nicer and it may be the last bastion of freedom left in America, but still, I am not sure about Texas.

Colorado would be my next best place, because at least it's libertarian compared to Seattle (not too hard to do really) and has mountains and all, even if they're further away.

Oi, I hope those crazy commies are stopped. I don't want to lose my job and be forced to leave the PNW.

Couldnt of said it better. Austin, TX may be bit of a compromise town if you go to TX. What about Portland?

From what I've heard, Austin isn't that much better than Seattle when it comes to crazy commies, and Portland isn't too far away...heck, up until a few years ago Seattle was the "normal one" and it was Portland that was insane.

My company has restaurants in Dallas, Houston and Denver and I should be able to transfer, which is why I choose those cities. Still...I will literally be crying if I have to leave Seattle. Not just because I have to leave but because politicians are forcing me out.

Funny thing is, as nerdy as it sounds, I just watched "the Hobbit" part two and I couldn't help thinking that I may end up like the dwarves Erebor, forced to leave the mountain homeland after a fire breathing dragon steals what's rightfully mine (only for me it would be a lie breathing Troskyte in the city council)

But unlike them I have a place to flee to: Texas will NEVER yield to the Leninists morons. And if I have to move I am turning 100% GOP, red light saber and all (if you haven't been able to tell, I'm a bit of a fantasy/sci fi geek)

And like the Dwarves of Erebor, after my home is destroyed, someday I will return and help slay that dragon. Until that time, I guess I'll have to use a cowboy hat to cover my tears...

Denver/Boulder may be more to your liking, but you do have a point. That is one of the reasons I do not want to live in Seattle, just way too liberal for my tastes. The Eastside suburbs around here are a lot more down the middle than Seattle proper. Theres other reasons I wouldnt live in Seattle to, but that is definitely one of them. Just like I would refuse to live in San Francisco if i had to live in the Bay Area, even if i worked there.

Yeah, my company also has restaurants in Denver, so I may try for there.

I just want someplace LIBERTARIAN to live, as in where I can negotiate what I get paid and also negotiate how much weed I smoke, both without going to jail. Not too many places in America like that, but with weed at least, that is changing.

And mountains would be a plus, as would be lenient gun laws (two reasons why I would NEVER move back to the East Coast)
