Why did the author chose Seattle as the backdrop of her novel? I mean the author is British...why Seattle of all places?

Just curious...

I'm assuming, because the book started out as Twilight fanfiction, and Twilight is set in WA.

Exactly.

Fifty Shades started out as a TRULY AWFUL piece of Twilight fanfiction titled "Master of the Universe"...sounds like "fifty shades of He-Man" to any child of the 80s, but that was the original title.

Anyway, E.L. James somehow got it published by changing the names of the MCs and dropping the references to vampires and a hundred million overweight and lonely housewives reading it on their Kindles later, and the worst piece of literally excrement in recent human history becomes a best seller.

This has got to be the WORST BOOK in human history. It is the only book I ever picked up out of curiosity, turned to a random page and said "wait, that's a run on sentence," and "wait, that's a comma slice" etc. It must have been edited by a non-English speaker with epilepsy or something.

And EL James never set foot in Seattle when she wrote it and didn't bother to do much research. From what I've heard she talks about a subway system in Seattle and in one scene a character drives from Vancouver BC to Seattle and stops in Portland on her way there... huh? Did EL James even bother to look at a map?

It has nothing to do with Seattle or the PNW and everything to do with an overweight British housewife and her fantasies about tall, handsome rich men.

Oh, and Stephen Meyer didn't step foot in the PNW either when she wrote Twilight. She just googled the cloudiest town in America and the Olympic Peninsula popped up and she wrote her story in Forks. Of course, Forks doesn't look anything like depicted in the movie or the books and the few people I met from there hate Twilight with a passion.
