Advertisements

"The Hill" - Capitol Hill
"The CD" - Central District
"Sunbreak" - When the rain/clouds begin to clear temporarily
"F-dub" - Federal Way
"Dub-C" - White Center

Those are some others I've heard that come to mind.

I've heard quite a few people here refer to a shopping cart as a "basket."

Maybe kinda obscure, but at one time wasn't the expression "Going to Tukwila" a local euphemism for having sex?

I believe it was mostly owing to an article by ex-Seattle Times columnist Erik Lacitis, describing a legally married couple who were trying to see how much sex they could have with each other within their marriage. So instead of "having sex," they described it as "Going to Tukwila.")!

If you hear someone talking about "the corridor," you know they mean Aurora.

Some more ...

The "Seattle Freeze"
"Freddy's" for Fred Meyer
The S.L.U.T.

Also, does Nordstrom hand out those little Nordy dolls anywhere but here? I'd never seen or heard of it before, until I took my daughter to Nordstrom in Tukwila to look for shoes, and they handed her this weird little white doll with no arms or legs. I guess it's supposed to look like a shoehorn ... ?

Are you thinking of the balloon holder? My kids have received those at the Ala Moana store.

I think the term "drip coffee" is a PNW term. I never heard it anywhere else but Seattle.
