Just got hired for a job in Kent so I'll be relocating in March from Richmond, VA. I'm a 27 year-old male, no children or family (or belongings soon!). I'd like to find a place within 30 minutes of my job, preferably with easy access to public transportation (I'll have a car but I don't much care for driving) and just general walkability. Preferably below $1300 a month.

Thanks you kindly for any help or recommendations!

Why exactly do you want easy access to public transportation? The reason I ask is that transit here varies widely in quality depending on where you go in the region. The entire system is configured to get people to work in downtown Seattle and a few other places like the University of Washington and downtown Bellevue. Look into the nearest bus routes to your job in Kent - you can use Google Maps' transit directions to get a sense of how to take transit to your job from various places in the region.

If you want to use transit for any purpose other than a rush hour commute, it leaves a lot to be desired. There are plenty of areas where you can walk to grocery stores, drug stores, and a few restaurants, so if that's what you're looking for, you're in luck. If you'd like to use public transit for hitting the bars on the weekends, you'll probably want to stick with areas near downtown Seattle. Late night transit in outlying areas is almost non-existent.
