Not sure what is different about this year from last, but our January 2014 kwh was 480 and last year it was 680, equating to less than $200 for the month (4 bedroom, 1860 sq ft). Just curious how ours is measuring up to others.... anyone want to volunteer that information? I'd like to think that we're just more conservative, but maybe it's just been a warmer year...

Mine is a combined gas/electric billing. Our last bill was $300ish, I'm expecting a higher bill next go round due to the cold. I don't think I've ever had a bill over $350. Our house is 3200 sq ft, but the finished basement is always a good 15 degrees colder than the main floor/2nd floor.

ETA our thermostat is set to 68.

You're just showing electric usage - 480 kwh should be less than $30. Guessing the rest is gas.

Our last combined gas/electric for a 3,000 sf house was $356, but we just replaced an upright freezer that we discovered was running 24/7 so hopefully it goes down a bit.

LOL I'm so ignorant.. but YES. Our furnance, stove, water heater I believe are all on gas... I should look to see if I can find a comparison on that before I go patting myself on the back.

Our has been about 70 a month lately- two people in an older one-bedroom ground-level apartment. Everything is electric, including built-in baseboard heaters and a free-standing space heater we also use.

On the topic of electricity, I believe Washington has the cheapest electricity in the country ...

How do you guys spend so much money on electricity? Do you all have uninsulated houses with 30 year old heaters or something?

My last bill was $25 for two months! I live in an 8th floor 1 bedroom (very new) apartment, and I barely need to run my heater as I get a lot of sun to warm my place up, and apparently all the apartments around me help to keep it warm as well. I also don't have many electronics running all the time.

In my case: Ground-level apartment without that much sun exposure, in an older, drafty building with electric baseboard heat. (and a space heater we bought)

On the colder days we've been having it feels like it's about 50 degrees inside when I get home from work. (we don't run the heat when we're not home) Takes a while to get to a comfortable temp... sometimes when it's especially cold I'll just get home and it in front of the space heater for 15 minutes just trying to warm up.
