I haven't read this entire thread so sorry if it is irrelevant or repetitive but your talking about the nuclear plant no one knows about made me think of this:

In Tacoma, there used to be a smelter owned by ASARCO I think it was. It contaminated a lot of the dirt in the area with lead and arsenic, some think from Lakewood to Auburn, and possibly further. That is just a part of life in the PNW, you get your soil tested and wash your hands after gardening. But I wanted to warn you they are building condos on the old site. It is in Ruston, near the end of Ruston way. If you are looking for places there, do some research!
