Default Sad to see all the Destruction

Hope everyone is okay and in good spirits,The pictures of the damage throughtout Washington has left me a bit sad. I wish everyone the best and hope things get back to normal quickly...I never even considered flood insurance, but certainly it will have to be purchased when I move up soon. The Speed that roads are reopening and power coming back on is very good for the people affected,I wish them all well..

All the more reason to live near downtown Seattle ;-) No power outage, no flooding on Queen Anne. Oh we did have that little mudslide over on Westlake though :-o

it's just mother nature giving/taking back a little.

60 roads were shut down, as of this morning, 40 of them are back open.

Lots of dirt removal will be in order..

I know your sentiments are appreciated, St. Croix. However, it's important to note that the vast majority of Seattle residents did not incur any damage. Most residential areas in Seattle and the immediate suburbs can come through such a storm with little or no flooding.

We tend to hear about the flooded areas in bad rainstorms but these areas are the ones that are usually prone to flooding. Flooding is somewhat "expected" in some areas of western Washington especially near the rivers or in the river valleys where those rivers will overflow their banks. Mudslides are also in areas that are usually prone to slide activity and although new slides can occur anywhere without warning, the vast majority of residential property is not affected.

I've never carried flood insurance for any property I've owned in western Washington and I've never once been flooded by heavy rain or runoff in any property that I've owned. The majority of my friends, acquaintances, coworkers, and family members who live in Seattle proper or the immediate suburbs have never experienced any damaging flooding. My point is, just be sure when you do choose a place to live that it isn't one that could be prone to these types of occurrences. The press tends to accentuate all the property damage that has taken place --and yes, it's a lot-- but the vast majority of residences in Seattle and the surrounding suburbs are doing just fine.

Thanks for that info, because on the news/weather channel, etc, it's hard to tell exactly the areas they are showing.

Not knowing where they are in relation to Downtown, or for instance, my new house in Bonney Lake, etc. I know the Puyallup River is in Puyallup but have no idea how close it might be to my home.

Bonney Lake is on a plateau, close to 800' above sea level. You have nothing to worry about from flooding along the Puyallup, or any other river for that matter.

What gets me is that I can ask people in Atlanta about it and I seem to be the only one who knows about it. In fact, I only know about it because I am on the internet alot. It is sad about what happened.

It really wasn't a big deal for most of us here, which is probably why people you know in Atlanta haven't heard about it. Honestly, I feel like the shooting in the mall yesterday was sadder than our flood. And we had alot more issues last year with the windstorm than with this flooding. ALOT of people being without power for weeks at a time, a family that died from using a generator for electricity, etc...
