I recently moved here to Port Townsend, which is a fabulous place but long term is entirely too small and rural for me. It was a short term lease that accepted my dog and it was on the beach so I snagged it to recharge my batteries for six months. In May I need to figure out where to move. From what I have read, these areas interest me the most in order of like:

1. Fremont
2. Wallingford
3. Ravenna
4. Montlake

Just to give you a better idea of what I am looking for: Single and child free, plan to stay that way, fabulous dog who is my world, Tech Writer who also has a punk clothing line, love alternative/grunge too, love the beach, love trees.

If it is artistic, odd, off-beat, unusual, unique, eclectic or weird - I will probably love it (I just moved from Boulder, CO and grew up in Chicago).

If it is filled with strip malls, cookie-cutter housing, lots of families with children, or retirees, or a quiet rural-ish neighborhood - it probably will not fit with my lifestyle.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

For what you're looking for, you got the order pretty much right. Fremont is pretty hip, and has a decent nightlife along with a trendy community downtown area. Not walkable to central Seattle, but an easy bus ride or drive away.

Wallingford, Ravenna and Montlake are nearing the university district and generally the demographic of the areas tend to show it. Wallingford is nice, some student population mixed in with everything else. Kind of seems to feed off of the U district in many respects, but has a more residential feel to it. Ravenna and Montlake seem to house a lot of the urban living professors for UW, Nicer upscale areas for the most part, they do tend to be more family oriented with pockets of student houses. A lot of old money (and houses) in both. Some gorgeous homes within both areas.

You're about 15 years too late for "artistic, odd, off-beat, unusual, unique, eclectic or weird " in Seattle.
