I have thought about Mill Creek....but I would prefer to live in Seattle...I lived near Northgate before and also in Lake City. I would love to live in one of the districts ...anywhere from Fremont north would be good. But we will also be considering Shoreline, Edmunds,Lynnwood, etc...

Yes staying with Boeing......going to the 787 project.
Since your going to the 787 project in Everett - just stay north. Everett, Lynwood, Edmonds and Woodinville all good.

You might enjoy Edmonds. It's not too far from Boeing and has a nice waterfront (which the kids can enoy in summer). A new PCC (food coop) is moving into Edmonds in 2008, too.

But you are mentioning schools... and if you want good schools, and a better commute... anything mentioned here other than Mill Creek or maybe Silver Lake? won't work.

Jenbar, what are the problems with the Edmonds school district? We have friends with kids in the district who like the schools and their kids seem to be thriving (they're great kids).

everyone has a different idea of what is acceptable so it is tough to get a great recommendation, you have to form a list of requirements that is important to you, your family and kids and find out if the area and schools fits those needs .someone else will have a different list of things they need and will find the area you find favorable negative that is okay, no two families are the same, with the amount of data on the internet it should be easy to cross areas off even before visiting, but I still say nothings beats a visit,Personally I am never impressed but after reading about Seattle then seeing it in Person my attitude changed, even what they call a low class neighborhood in the Greater Seattle area is impressive compared to other states,cities....

Which school? My child was at Oak Heights... horrible horrible horrible.

My kids are great too but I tried so hard to get a waiver out of that school. One of the issues is too personal to post about.. but the teachers we had were inefficient, overworked, classrooms in serious need of revamping, questionable behaviors of children at the elementary level... regarding the personal incident, had a horrific time trying to get the principal of the school and the district administration to listen to me about something that was going on... and they just let it get worse.

BTW when we moved to Austin, my children were behind in math... caught up quickly, but that will tell you about the quality of education.

I have never heard of the schools being better in Texas....

http://www.nationsreportcard.gov/math_2007/m0005.asp

This table shows Washington performing slightly better than Texas in fourth grade math assesment tests and slightly worse for 8th grade.....

I have heard that Dallas has some outstanding schools, and I don't doubt Austin as well with all of the job growth and everything...but you are making Washington sound like Mississipi, when the stats show that Washington is on par or even exceeding Texas in test scores.

P.S. Texas just named a self-avowed creationist as it's new state education chairman....yikes! Better make sure your kids understand evolution before their science teachers get to them
