Of course we have the new 520 Bridge, SR99 Tunnel and Seawall Replacement. There will also be an additional phase to the East Marginal Way Grade Separation, and Terminal 5 will be completely overhauled to accept larger container ships. There are 77 big residential projects permitted, 45 under construction, mostly in the In the Denny Triangle and South Lake Union areas. The airport is planning a big new international arrivals terminal.

The biggest project that is approved but not underway yet is the Seattle Master Bicycle Plan, which will convert most four lane arterials to two-traffic lane routes with cycle tracks, and will convert a lot of minor arterials to greenways designed to impede or slow down vehicular traffic. It's going to have a huge effect on the city's transportation grid. Whether it is good or bad depends on whether you can bike or need to drive.

The Yesler Terrace redevelopment is a huge project . Currently, less than 1200 people, all low income, live in Yesler Terrace. When the project is finished, the redeveloped Yesler Terrace will house 10,000 people, only a small minority low income, in addition to offices and retail. The new First Hill streetcar will go by Yesler Terrace on it's way to First Hill and Capitol Hill.

I'm excited about this, too. I really hope both First Hill and Yesler Terrace will benefit from the addition of market-rate units to a historically lower-income neighborhood. If nothing else, Yesler and First Hill will be as desirable a place to live as Cap Hill.

Additionally there is all the work being performed by Sound Transit. Currently they are building an extension that will extend the line from downtown through Capital Hill to the U-District by 2015 (one of the only projects actually ahead of schedule!) and it will eventually extend all the way to Northgate. They recently started tunneling in the Maple Leaf neighborhood and have been working in Ravenna for that portion.

They are also working on a south link extension that will connect Federal Way to Seatac, designing the link that will go across Mercer Island to Bellevue from Seattle, and they are in the early stages of planning for a link to Ballard.
