I don't know there are a ton of kids in the city right now. The public schools are incredibly overcrowded. Even the private schools are jammed with full wait lists.

Try again.
Seattle hasn't had transplants very long like some of the cities I've mentioned.

My neighborhood in Seattle ( Phinney) is filled with kids and families...in fact on our block alone out of 25 houses 19 of them have children under 18...my daughters school has a waiting list and the public schools are filled to capacity! I think Seattle is changing so rapidly that demographic data isn't keeping up.

The city's expensive and I think most people would rather raise their kids in a more affordable suburb. Or if money isn't an issue, they probably want to raise their kids on the Eastside. Child care is amongst the most expensive in the nation here.

I've also noticed a lot more older than average parents here (like, 40+ yrs at birth of first child). I think a lot of people here are the types who wanted to wait until they had a comfortable income to give their kids the best.

North Seattle is very family oriented and I notice younger families here... Inner Seattle, like most cities is metrosexual, Seattle being more so than others. Many wait until later in life or never have children, while they pursue their careers or enjoy a life of partying, clubbing, socializing or just being single or unburdened with family life.

However, in more Northern Seattle neighborhoods there are lots of kiddies everywhere and its not uncommon to see people walking around the streets with 3 or 4 kids. I actually like how safe and family friendly many of Seattle's areas are. You don't see a lot of cities where entire families will walk up and down the big roads like Seattle. Even in Portland, it was not the most common site.
