Hi,

Moving to Seattle and a little disheartened with what $650K buys you in the close in W/NW/NE/N Neighborhoods. Looks like you can get from Northgate TC to the transit tunnel via the 41 in about 15 min. Is this realistic during rush hour commutes..i.e. leaving Northgate at 7:15 and University Station at 4:15? Everytime I'm in Seattle the 5 is a parking lot between downtown and Lynnwood. Thanks.

The 41 gets right on the express lanes at Northgate and gets off right into the tunnel downtown, with no stops in between. And it does the same thing going north. Those times are realistic, I've found, and during rush hour the 41 runs every few minutes.

Those times are pretty accurate; the 41 takes anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes to get from Northgate to downtown Seattle. That, of course, assumes there is not an accident in the express lanes (which can happen).

thanks. any other areas of the city where that kind of commute is possible? hoping to spend less than $650K and dont want to live in a matchbox on a 3K SF lot.

The only reason why the 41's commute is that short is because it runs on the express lanes. The express lanes spill out at Northgate and run to just south of downtown (i.e., the SODO area, approximately). The 41 is not the only bus to use the express lanes, but it IS the only bus whose primary route is just going up and down the length of the express lanes.

That is, other buses will have longer routes in addition to the commute on the express lanes and thus will take more time.

If you're looking at Northgate because of the kind of house you can get for $650K, I'd take into consideration that is almost double what the average house costs in the Northgate area.
