I'm a little hesitant to divulge one of my Seattle "secrets" (because if the place became crowded I'd be sad) but my favorite Seattle view isn't from a building or elevated spot at all- it's Centennial Park, which has a really unique, panoramic view- pretty, but also a bit industrial- that I think sums the whole city up very well.

And, it's free, of course.

Kerry Park as mentioned. From the south side Dr. Jose Rizal Park on Beacon hill. Much prefer the Smith Tower over Columbia Center for a more intimate view of downtown and the history behind it.

Isn't there a Starbuck's in an office building downtown with a great view? Anyone know the details of that?

It's the Starbucks on the 40th floor of the Columbia Tower. Monday to Friday only.

Any cost or security clearance just to get up to 40th floor SBs? Or just viewing observatory on 73rd floor?

No cost, other than for the overpriced lattes.

Washington State Ferry eastbound from Winslow or Bremerton, best in the late hours of sunlight glistening off the buildings. Cloudy days also are good, but nothing beats that view on a sunny summer day around 6pm or 7pm.

Be forewarned though, the trip westbound in the morning, even in summer, can be chilly on the deck. Bring a light coat. The WA State ferry system is a jewel. The prices have been rising, but you can still walk-on and save!
