Seattle, WA suicide capital, USA. Now, why is that? why does Seattle, WA have that nickname and title, suicide capital USA? Because, Seattle, WA is the most gloomiest and depressing cities in the United States of America, because of the weather, it rains constantly and persistently like cats and dogs and it is always dark out and no sunlight for most of the year. eventhough it's true that Seattle is the suicide capital, it's kinda funny in a way so to speak, because I never even imagined that any place especially Seattle, would be as bad or even worse than Memphis, TN or anywhere here in the southeast. when I was in Arizona, I met a lot of different people from all over the Seattle area and I was surprised and in shock to learn that about Seattle when they told me, they also told me that before they moved to Arizona, they were on the verge of committing suicide, but immediately after they moved, they immediately noticed a big difference and they haven't had any kind of suicidal thoughts since then.

It doesn't. It's not even in the Top 10 for stats from what I recall.

Did you come to City Data for any useful purpose, or just to troll?

I'm sure that's a nickname people from sunny climates gave it...regardless, the statistics don't support the idea. In fact, most of the cities with the highest suicide rates are in very hot arid climates.

It's interesting how some disgruntled folks keep resurrecting themselves under new names...

SnowBlade just made his account, and he immediately posts a troll thread. It's obviously an alternate account made by that one troll member who keeps trolling the Seattle forums. That guy really has no life, does he?

It reads like Al-Quaeda propaganda.

This is one of those myths like the Richard Gere and Rod Stewart stories that somehow had legs long before the internet was a thing. I suspect that Emmett Watson had something to do with the origin story.

It's not even close to being true, of course. You need to be in Vegas, Boise, Albuquerque or some other bone-dry place to make the top 10.

Thanks for trolling though... hopefully lots of potentials will read it and keep our housing costs from continuing to spiral upward.

I never will understand why people are so quick to designate someone as a "troll".

I have heard that Seattle has an incredible high suicide rate as well, but have never met one person from Seattle who confirmed that reputation.

How about suicide attempts?

Seattle region ranks 2nd of 33 in U.S. suicide attempts « Social Capital Review

I have a problem with surveys and polls because I don't think they can be relying on to make generalizations.

LexusNexus:
A person usually gets designated as a troll on the Seattle Forum as soon as he points out anything wrong with the city.

Seattle is among the leading cities in suicide attempts. Apparently the passive-aggressive culture here even reflects itself in suicides too; they can only attempt it but lack the will to see it through. Anything to play the victim card! LOL

As a side note: before I moved to Seattle, I rarely met anyone who'd suffered a nervous breakdown. Here they seem to be fairly common. And it shouldn't be forgotten that Seattle is also one of the highest per capita in prescription psychiatric drug consumption.
