Hi everyone!

My boyfriend and I are considering moving from Los Angeles to Seattle sometime next year! We are ready for a change in scenery and to experience life elsewhere.

We are both in our 20s and looking for a place that's great for young professionals, has decently affordable housing (we eventually want to buy), and an array of activities to take part in!

What recommendations do you guys have for neighborhoods in Seattle? What do you like/dislike about the city? Is there a strong population of young professionals? My boyfriend is a realtor, so any realtors out there, how has the climate been for your work?

I know Seattle rains a lot, but how many seasons do you actually experience? As most of you probably know, in Los Angeles we have about 1 1/2 seasons...

Any and all information is greatly appreciated! If you have advice on something that I haven't asked about, please fill me in! We want to try to make the best decision so that we can plan a great future for ourselves and our cute pug.

Thanks in advance!

What is "decently affordable"? Coming from LA, no big surprises in Seattle. Our rentals may or may not be higher than parts of LA, on-average. Let's put it this way: take a look at listings for Capitol Hill and Fremont, as examples. If that dog hunts within your budget, you'll be OK.

Neighborhoods are totally a matter of preference, hip to square and everything in-between. The two I mentioned are hip. There are others.

Weather thread has four thousand five hundred-something replies. Add another, I want to see if it busts 5K by year end. There are several seasons: rain, dry and warm to hot, a nice Fall, and...repeat. So that's twice as much as LA, anyway.

You'll want to comb our local paper online (Seattle Times), before it drops down a pay wall after allowing a few articles. Most of your questions about culture, stuff to-do, etc. are addressed there and elsewhere.

The best "advice", frankly, is to arrive with professional-level jobs that are reasonably stable, and/or in-demand skills in tech (Cloud-centric being especially helpful). This is an untenable place to be poor, with median Seattle home price waaaaay up past few years and rental costs far ahead of that, too.

LA is pretty big. in general, seattle is much cheaper than LA but the most expensive areas in seattle are going to be much more expensive than the cheapest areas in LA.

there are many young professionals (lots in tech). there are also a lot of realtors and real estate tech companies (zillow, redfin, etc.).
