Have you been to Pike/Pine in Capitol Hill on the weekends lately? There is very little that is gay about it these days. There's actually a wide range of people, including many bridge and tunnel frat boy/barbie doll types, some hipsters, and a lot of young people just looking to get drunk and hook up. It's Seattle's equivalent of the Lower East Side in NYC. All the venues people mentioned are oriented towards straight people. There are other sections of Capitol Hill where the gay scene is more prominent (although still secondary), but the area people are talking about is not really at all.

I'd say it's closer to $18 from Downtown to Ballard.

I'd say that's about right. 2.50 drop(the charge to get in the cab) plus 2.70 per mile. The heart of downtown Seattle is a little under 6 miles to Ballard Avenue and Market Street.

Default Pioneer Square

"Pioneer Square is up and coming with plenty of bars and a few clubs, but it's pretty quiet unless there's a Seahawks or Sounders game."

Yes, "up and coming" for patrons of upscale restaurants and bars, but not for live music and dancing. With recent losses of The New Orleans, Fenix, The Last Supper Club and Tiki Bob's, it's pretty much down to The Central Saloon, J&M and 88 Keys for live music and Trinity for DJ. A far cry from the lively days of the joint cover with eight or nine bars rocking with bands.
