Interesting. In your opinion, which of the two would be better for a young person wanting to meet people? Bellingham is a bit bigger than Olympia, but Olympia seems to be closer to Seattle, along with the sub-regions of it like Tacoma and whatnot. Bellingham is a bit bigger, but its fairly isolated from any large cities, no? I guess thats a good and bad thing.

Out of Olympia, Bellingham, Vancouver WA, I would vote for Vancouver. Why? Because with Van you get Portland OR. Van itself is not a very interesting place, but you are getting Portland 15 min away, which is a really cool city. Living in Van is like say living in Bellevue in terms of Bellevue's distance from Seattle (Van maybe actually closer). Portland is a major metropolitan area, international airport, much more cultural amenities, universities, concerts, restaurants, sports teams & things to do in Portland than Olympia or Bellingham. You have Mt. Adams, Mt. St Helens, Mt. Hood, Columbia River, Bend OR, OR Coast, etc.. within striking distance. And you can rent a nice 1 bedroom easily for $800 in Van (maybe even $700). You can buy a good condition 3/2 home with 2 car garage for $225k in Van.

As stand alone cities I would take Bellingham & Olympia over Vancouver any day, but Van has Portland 15 min away so it's really part of the Portland metro area. And at PDX you have bargain airline Spirit Air! <$100 round trip tickets to San Diego to get warm & sun in the winter (as well as many more destinations)!
