I'm moving from a North East City and ready for the west coast experience.
I've been looking downtown but wow the apartments are tiny. I'm just used to more space.
a friend recommended against queen anne... that's where i thought i would look first.
FYI we don't have children
i'm in my early 30's & over the crazy club scene but love pubs, brewery's, wine bars and lounges.. somewhere to chill at night.
what i'm looking for
2+ bedroom
at least 1200 square feet
under $2500 per month
love amenities
easy commute to amazon
i like the sense of community in unique neighborhoods

Queen Anne is actually a good place to look, especially if you want an easy commute to Amazon. Also try Greenlake. You may have to compromise on the commute to get the space and amenities you want. Fremont would be good, has some character, but it's across the canal from the north side of Queen Anne. Eastlake would be an easy commute. I don't know about the pub scene, etc. there, though. Check out the bus routes from Fremont downtown, and look up apartments for Fremont on Craigslist, for pricing. It could be a good fit.

What was the reason for avoiding Queen Anne? It's not for everyone, but it hits all of your criteria.

Ballard, Fremont, Wallingford, and Green Lake are also good options.

Thanks! She said Queen Anne was a little over the top....but it sounded more to me like that would have been Capitol Hill.

Yep; these are good suggestions.

Bryant and Ravenna could work too.

Awesome. Thanks. So what is Queen Anne like? I think she may have been confused. I've only heard great things

Some parts of it are more family-oriented, it depends on the neighborhood. Probably lower Queen Anne, closer to downtown, is a little more singles-oriented. Much of it is walkable, and beautiful.

Still not sure exactly what you've heard about Queen Anne, but I will say that for anyone trying to avoid raucous weekend merrymaking, there's no danger of finding it in Queen Anne. The only street that's even somewhat bustling is a two-block stretch of of Queen Anne Avenue between Republican and Roy, and then maybe a bit of spillover activity on Mercer and Roy in that vicinity. Upper Queen Anne has a commercial strip on Queen Anne Avenue, but it only has a few scattered bars and is generally very quiet after 11 pm. "Queen Anne" describes a very large area, but it's mostly residential. By the standards of most east coast cities, it's suburban. It's astonishingly quiet given its proximity to downtown.

As far as breweries, brewpubs, places that serve awesome microbrews, Ballard can't be beat. It's a little further from Amazon than Queen Anne, but it's also a little less expensive, and has more interesting places to eat. There's nothing wrong with Queen Anne. Lower Queen Anne is almost an extension of downtown, so it's got shopping and supermarkets and restaurants( including Red Papaya, a brewpub with great local beer and Vietnamese food. Fantastic combination.) And the iconic Dick's Drive In. It's certainly mellower than Pike/Pine on Capitol Hill, but by Seattle standards, lower Queen Anne is a little denser/more urban than most Seattle neighborhoods.
Upper Queen Anne is easily one of Seattle's best neighborhoods. Very cool old houses, and breathtaking views. I'm not current on what rents go for in Upper Queen Anne, but if you can do it, Upper Queen Anne is great. The retail/restaurants on the top of Queen Anne have charm, although there's not a ton of it. Good Thai restaurant.
But in general, Ballard has more going on, from restaurants, to beer places, to supermarkets, to parks.
