If you don't consider median rent $688 or median home price $159,000 to be affordable, perhaps you need to consider Mississippi or Tennessee.

What kind of a lame-ass answer is that?

Hemlock140-I owe you an apology. I don't know why I reacted that way. It's just that I want ta move back ta Washington and this real estate lady in Moses Lake isn't doing her part. I finally got the application for the house we want to rent tonight attached to an e-mail.

I was just frustrated and didn't mean what I said to you, Hemlock140.

I can only speak from personal experience, but I'm shocked Hartford is even on there. We are from MA and my husband accepted a job in Seattle. he is making close to the same, just a bit more, but our money will go much further there, so we are going for it. He was offered a job in Hartford paying HALF of his current salary. The hiring manager was shocked at his former pay and current pay and said they couldn't even come close to matching that.

Cool, 4monkeysjumping. We'll be neighbors! My job will be in Moses Lake and Wenatchee and the rental home will be in Ephrata, WA. Ephrata is the County seat of Grant County and it's about 25 miles north of Moses Lake.

I don't find that to be the case most of the time. For many mid level non tech professionals the pay is relatively the same in Atlanta, DC or Seattle. If your in Tech or high up in management it might be different.

Went to a QFC super market in Bellevue the other day while visiting and most items seemed in the range of $4-$5 (i.e. a tomato sauce can, really?). I know COL is higher in Seattle metro, however, further up in B'ham or Mr Vernon or those areas such items were considerably less. I've also heard housing is expensive so makes me wonder how much $$$ people make up there. I would much rather live away from metro Seattle , i.e. an hr or more away (well I don't live there, just saying ..if I lived there).
