We've narrowed it down to these two cities, after doing extensive research on and off for the last 3 years! We're moving out there on July 1. We're heading out there on March 27 to check it out for ourselves, but if you had to pick, which one would you choose and why? If it matters, (because of schools, etc.) we're a family of 4, our son is 9 and our daughter is 13. Thanks for taking the time to answer!

Depends on what you're looking for. If I were buying a 600,000 dollar house, Edmonds. Downtown Edmonds is walkable, fun, and pretty. There really isn't a downtown Shoreline, though Richmond beach is very nice. If it was a 350,000 dollar house, I'm not sure I'd pick one over the other. Both have good schools. Is one closer to work?

Well, we're going to be renting for the first year or so, and right now my husband will be telecommuting and I'll be looking for jobs in healthcare, specifically hospitals. So I guess closer to Seattle proper would be better. Does the Sounder stop in Shoreline? I know it does in Edmonds.

Hands down I would choose Edmonds. It has such a lovely feel to it. It seems quaint, safe, but with some interesting shops and galleries down town... all of which short distance from the water. I haven't visited all of shoreline, but I've had to go up there for various reasons (passport/licensing/coursework/kids' activities). I haven't been impressed. Granted nearly all of these activities happened alongside Hwy 99, which probably severely disfigured my impression. I would think the commute to Shoreline is more navigable than Edmonds though.

I grew up in Edmonds so my view is slanted towards it but I would any day of the week pick Edmonds over Shoreline. No doubt, it was a great little town ta grow up in, picking blackberries and salmon berries, enjoying our animals, enjoying nice hikes in the woods, walks all over town and, of course, Picnic Point Beach, Haines Wharf and the downtown Edmonds City Beach. Not ta mention that fact that a bonafide Washington State Ferry docked and carried cars and passengers from there.

I have the most delightful memories of Edmonds, WA.

There's no Sounder stop in Shoreline. There is express bus service.
