My wife and I are a bit younger than you, but will probably be heading out there soon as well. Sounds like margins are tight there even with the 16 dollar per hour job I may have. We'll probably get a place around Redmond.

How is the rent there?

People on this forum talk about high rent, but I've seen lots of google results for decent, furnished, 500-600sq ft. studio apartments in Seattle for less than $900. Maybe those places are gov't subsidized though?
Seattle is more expensive than you realize. There are cheaper places in the country to live than the Seattle metro. Don't say you weren't warned.

I live in Seattle Northgate and consider the rent for my one bedroom apartment very reasonable.

Is your apartment $900. furnished? Reasonable is relative; many posters complain about how expensive Seattle is but may have arrived here with little more than a dream.

I was just in Tacoma today, it's looking kind of dumpy.. Sad, the town was on the upswing, but latest visit, it's just looking damn grimey. What's going on with this downtown again? Tacoma needs love.. Please everyone move to Tacoma and let Seattle have some rest.. Tacoma has way nicer views past the barbed wire and overgrown shrubs and bushes.. I am serious!

I haven't been to Hilltop and 6th Ave, maybe things are looking more upbeat then in lower downtown/South Tacoma area I was in. Tacoma has such cool views, but just isn't so TREEEENNNDDDYYY like Seeeeaaahhtulll .

Please all you yuppies and uppies and the rest of you, put that nice California/East Coast money you brought over into that poor town named Tacoma who needs some lovin!

WOW.. Mount Rainier was just PURE AWESOME today! I bet even the richest aristocrat in Seattle would die to have a Rainier view half as good as the poor guy in the South side of Tacoma has.

Tacoma rent is consistently cheaper.

OP, how much does one athletic person pay for groceries in North Seattle if they do all their own cooking?
