Wandering around from Dad's A&W Drive-In on Empire and Orcas St. down the hill to Lake Washington for the hydro races. Whoa, I'm talkin' around 1967 here, talk about giving away my age, eh? No, that time of year was a ball, the "good weather" months in Seattle.

The I-90 bridge breaking apart and sinking the year after I got here (1990) and the traffic chaos that ensued immediately until they built the new one. That was crazy. Here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gm0YQ3vuyyY

When I first saw 1st and 2nd Aves., downtown, they were seedy. That was just before they were developed into a more upscale shopping area, in the 80's. They're so much nicer, now!

University Way was a nice shopping district, no homeless. Higher-end clothing stores, there. The India House restaurant near the corner of U Way and 50th, before it moved to Roosevelt. Very popular with the students.

Marimba ensembles playing at various festivals, and in the pubs downtown and in the U District.

Most things I remember haven't changed: Kidd Valley is still there, May 17th parade in Ballard still happens, the PIke Place Mkt is still going strong, Elliott Bay Books is hanging in there.

Kidd Valley? For sure Ruth, I take my daughter to the one just south of Green Lake. They also have locations in University District, Kenmore, Bellevue, Kirkland, Coulon Park in Renton, Aurora Ave N and at the two stadiums, Safeco Field and Centurylink Field.

Yeah, they've really expanded all over the place! They were the only place in town that had blackberry milkshakes.

Oh, and I almost forgot--the Honeybear Bakery in the Greenlake area! That was one happening place, back in the 90's! Always packed, day and night, great bakery stuff--huge variety, as well as soups, sandwiches, coffee, tea. Big singles scene.

And the Kwan Yin Teahouse in Wallingford had a good menu of mini-meal type snacks, good Chinese dumplings, Indian curry, and a nice little selection of deserts, not to mention the huge selection of teas. It's still there, but the menu doesn't look as good.

Loved the Honeybear, Ruth. Remember that awesome Tiki Bar "Luau Polynesian Lounge" right near it in Tangletown? Even if you didn't like maitais, that place made you want one. Epic.

The Honeybear was a huge phenom! It's moved out to Lake City now, but it sounds like a mere shell of its former self. And according to the reviews, the service is terrible, which is weird. How hard would it be for mgmt to work with their staff to improve service? Oh well.
