Mirrormount, Issaquah, WA- Remote??
My family and I are planning to move to WA and like many others, I'm looking on the Eastside (Bellevue, Sammamish, Redmond, and Issaquah) due to the schools and access to the Japanese food/community. I found a lovely home (just by pictures) in Mirrormount, Issaquah which seems really remote and it looks like the schools are in Renton. How are the schools there? I'm looking for an older house with a big lot, somewhat remote, but still have access to the big stores. My husband will most likely work from home so I need a place with cable connection as opposed to a huge satelite on the roof. Any info of Mirrormount, Issaquah or the surrounding areas would be great. Thanks!!

The schools in Issaquah and Bellevue will be much more appealing to you than the Renton schools. If you do some searching on the C-D forum, you'll find "real users'" comments about the schools in those locations.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't get high speed Internet in Issaquah. Maybe take an address from a listing you're looking at and run it by Comcast (local cable internet provider) or any alternatives you might find to check availability.

I'm getting conflicting information on the info you provided.
Do you mean Mirrormount Blvd. in Issaquah, or Mirrormont ?
Did you search the street address on Mapquest to see how many roads are in that area? If there are roads, it's not remote. Probably nowhere in Issaquah is actually "off the grid" remote.

MirrorMount is out Issaquah-Hobart road towards Rt 18. When we lived in Issaquah we Comcast cable internet was not available. We had to us DSL through Qwest. We hated it, has so much trouble with it when we were on the phone and internet a t the same time -UGH!
This area is close to all the shops in Issaquah on Gilman Blvd which is where all the "Big" named stores are. Some are a little further down the road but close by!

MirrorMONT, Issaquah
So yes, it was my typo. It's the area of Mirrormont, Issaquah. I've been reading a lot of the area and mapped it, etc. and although the schools are a part of the Issaquah district, they are still located in Renton it seems. I'll take your suggestion and call comcast. I'll also ask the realtor about the cable connection. Thanks for all the posts!

We lived in Mirrormont for about a year in 2003 (and had Comcast high-speed Internet). Our children weren't yet of school age, so I don't have first hand experience. All the schools were at least a 15-20 minute bus ride. The schools are in the Issaquah school district, which is highly regarded, but I'm not sure if these particular schools are as strong as others. The neighborhood itself is pretty remote. It is about a 10-15 minute drive from Issaquah in the best of times and that road, Issaquah-Hobart Road, gets very backed up at rush hour. It is remote within the neighborhood as well. The homes are on large lots (1+ acre) and most lots are heavily wooded. We couldn't see any other houses from most of our windows, especially when there were leaves on the trees. This also leads to darkness during the winter, when 8 hour days, cloudy skies and the trees lead to very little daylight penetrating the house.

Thanks Drewba. That was really informative. I'll be sure to tell my hubby about the dark winters.
I believe the schools connected to that area are Maple Valley Elementary and Liberty Snr High school. They definitely weren't ranked as high as the ones in Bellevue, but they are higher than the schools in my neighborhood now! Any info on these schools or this school district?
I also found another place on Sammamish Lake that seemed promising, but I was wondering if that lake floods or anything. I've been told by some of my peers to stay away from property with streams because they flood. Is this true?
Thanks for all the help!!

Here's a school guide that may be of help: The Seattle Times: School Guide
Streams here are definitely prone to flooding as is Lake Sammamish. We used to live in an apartment complex on that lake and the office was built on pilings on the shore. I recall the water flooding under the office on at least one occasion. It looks like it can get pretty bad, at least on occasion: More Washington News | NWCN.com | Northwest News and Weather
