We did it about a year and a half ago. Moved 3,000 miles away from home. It is temporary but still the hardest thing I have ever done and I long for 2010 when I can be back home around family and friends. I think when you make a big move like this you never even know how its going to affect you until you do it. I thought I would be fine, being that it is temp., but I am not. Seattle has alot to offer, it will have made our life financially sound when we go back home, but really think about moving anywhere long and hard before you do it. Especially if you are a big family and friend person. Good luck to you!!

Are you just wanting to go back home because of friends & family, or do you just not like Seattle?

Both. I am homesick but know that I have about 2 more years to go and then we will go back. Seattle is just not a good "fit" for us. We are having a hard time adjusting and its been over a year now. But that doesn't mean it won't be good for you. The scenery out here is beautiful, when the weather complies, but its not enough to make me stay forever.

"think about why you are choosing to make such a drastic change at this time." and
"really think about moving anywhere long and hard before you do it."

If you notice, the OP said he's been thinking about moving to Seattle "for 5 years". He's a grown-up; I'm sure he knows how to make good decisions for himself, and create paths that are fulfilling. :-)

Oh okay, well sorry to hear that. I'll make my first trip up there this summer, so I have no idea if I'll like it-even though the weather supposedly isn't bad that time of year. And by adjusting, I take it you primarily mean the weather?

No, the weather is one part of the adjustment, it's the people out here that we don't seem to be a good fit with. It is so different out here from what we are used to. Our old neighborhood back home was wonderful. Great people, get-togethers, women hanging out together (book clubs, bunco). People are more to themselves out here, which is fine, we are just used to being more social and look foreward to returning to that.

Seattle is not a bad place to live, just not for us. And yes, if you come in the summer, the weather is nice and you will not experience the dreary winter month. July-August are the nicest out here!

I pretty much agree with Pittgal. I moved there from the east coast in '99. Loved it for the first 3-5 years, and then was totally over it. It is gorgeous, but scenary can't make you happy for ever. We moved to Austin, TX and this, for sure, is IT for us.

Yes, I read that...I was saying that from my own personal experience, not telling him what to do per say.
