Portland's dark world of child sex trafficking - Washington Times

That isn't the original article I read about the issue, the one I read was more recent and more disturbing. While it's not my thing, I am fine with consenting adults doing whatever, the reality is that kids are being sold into sex.
The question is whether a prohibition approach that encourages a black market has a better chance of combating underage sex trafficking than a decriminalization approach that allows a limited (but regulated, inspected, zoned, taxed, licensed, etc.) market to operate (sort of like strip clubs in Seattle). I'd say the latter. It could be a source of additional funding, for one thing, to even more aggressively investigate, prosecute, and imprison traffickers, as well as to provide better alternatives to sex workers (housing/support, therapy/treatment, training/education, etc.).

The flaw in the prohibition approach is that sufficient funding has never been provided to achieve its aims. Moral aims can have immoral results. The Swedish example is an anomaly, in that providers and customers need only cross a bridge or catch a ferry to conduct their trade (in Denmark or Hamburg).

Crazydonkey, I agree prohibition doesn't work, whether it's stripping or prostitution. Legalize it, regulate it and severely punish pimps and human traffickers. Whatever Seattle's rules are, they are lacking, I don't like reading how our cops are using tax dollars to get lap dances.

I don't know what the exact answers are, but it's an issue that needs to be addressed instead of ignored. Though I doubt anything is going to happen, seeing how it took how many decades for us to finally deal with 'teh potz'.

I read this whole article. I feel that this is a waste of tax payer dollars. These cops should be out fighting major crimes such as drug dealings, robberies, burglaries, and not go into numerous strip clubs all over town to get lap dances to perform their "investigations".
