I love the ferry system, being able to hop on a big boat (ferries over on Cape Cod are a joke!), watching for harbor seals during the ride and then hitting Bainbridge, Vashon or any town on the peninsula for lunch and exploring.

I love that most of the year it's cozy sweater or fleece weather.

I love that you are never far from a good cup of coffee or some other warm beverage.

I love that we don't have super aggressive drivers (though I don't love our drivers, I am certainly glad it's not southern CA or DC drivers).

I love how you can rent a kayak and float under a freeway!

Nice!

I agree with all your loves. (Yeah, drivers are somewhat frustrating, but a small imposition compared to the qualities of the area).

This area is excellent. I sometimes tire of the high prices, but I think they are, for the most part, worth it!

Restaurants like this I discover on a regular basis: To celebrate the Chinese New Year, just had lunch at a delicious relatively new authentic Chinese restaurant just east of Green Lake in Seattle called "Ming China Bistro". The woman said they intentional opened quietly last year. Gorgeous inside, filled with native Chinese people living, going to grad school or working in Seattle.

I went in, was greeted warmly with calm music playing, escorted to a small wooden table, brought hot jasmine tea immediately. Without even ordering, amuse bouche (appetizers on the house) were brought to me: lotus root in chili pepper oil, pickled cucumbers with sesame tofu and shredded chicken with chili and basil.

The guys next to me (Chinese UW grad students) were eating huge plates of chili crab and sea bass. They invited me to join them, I declined as I already had ordered. My order, a $19 hot pot that could have fed 3 people (I actually called my wife and had her come right over), was delicious. It had prawns, lotus root, Chinese cabbage, broccoli, fish cakes, fresh fish, pork ribs, two kinds of noodles and chili garlic oil.

Straight up delicious meal. Ordered a Tsingtao beer to wash it down happily. Here's the link: ming china bistro

People are heathy and exercise here. It's inspiring to see others doing this all around you.

Variation on the blue jeans theme: In summer, I sometimes meet my clients in shorts and flip flops. Doing what I do, I'm not sure I could get away with that many places in the country.

I don't live in Seattle, but I was just in Gasworks Park, & the Seattle nighttime skyline from there is breathtaking...the park is pretty cool, too.

And there are some great orthopedic surgeons in Seattle, for which I'm very grateful.

I'm always up for Chinese restaurant recommendations in Seattle. What's that one downtown on 2nd Ave., a couple of block south of Pike, that's popular with the business crowd? Best Chinese restaurant I've ever been in, and I'm from the Bay Area, which has the largest Chinese population in the US, AFAIK. Or maybe, 2nd only to NYC.

Speaking of ferries (a few posts up), I had a wonderful ride through the San Juans last fall, which I haven't done since my early 20's. It was very beautiful. And there were porpoises escorting us part of the way. I'd never seen that before.

I guess that's not strictly relevant to Seattle. There used to be hydrofoil service from Seattle through the islands to Victoria, which was really nice, too. I appreciated the accelerated service. You paid more for it, but it was worth it to save the trouble of getting to Anacortes, then a 5-hr. trip (or whatever) to Sydney, then a bus to Victoria.
