We fly to Seattle and rent a car about 1 pm. Thinking of driving directly to the Ferry most likely 2 pm. Appreciate your estimate of time to Mukilteo and wait at Ferry.

Thanks

When? The drive up I5 to Mukilteo can take as little as 45 minutes, or over 2 hours depending on the time of day and day of week. If you get out of the rental car facility by 2pm you will be ahead of the commute, but even that early probably 90 minutes on weekdays. The ferry wait of course depends on how long before the next boat, but again, after about 3-4pm weekdays it could
be full before you get on and have to wait for the next. They run every half hour, so probably not more than a bit more than an hour wait at most. On weekends this time of year it's not crowded except at commute times, but in summer all of the ferries are much busier.

You can see all the ferry line cameras here;

And here is the ferry map of where they are at any given time:

I read you post to mean you'll leave Seatac rental car place at 1pm. You should be okay that time of day, Just don't stop, drive right to ferry. I bet from the rental car lot, you'll make it there in 50 min. If you meant you're leaving at 2, add 10 min or so. There shouldn't be much of a line. Don't worry about the ferry time. Just drive there, they'll put you on the next boat. If you have to wait for a boat, it is pleasant by the water in Mukilteo. Grab a coffee or delicious chowder at Ivar's from the takeout window.

I guess I was the only one reading this as an open letter to the Clintons and was confused. I thought maybe they were coming in to fund raise or campaign....stupid election year, messing with my brain!

Yes we land at 1pm get the car and will drive directly to the Ferry. Do we buy tickets on line before or on the ship?

In line. You'll drive up to the booth, pay them and they will tell you which lane to get in.
