to southern california, they fly nonstop to john wayne airport (SNA).

most of my flights are to the bay area though.

the best part is the no change fees + free bag checks.

i also fly alaska sometimes and i'm MVP on alaska. they are pretty good too.

delta sucks though. i hate whenever i have to fly delta. they have expanded their footprint in seattle and they are helping to drive down the prices so that's good but delta just sucks.
That's why I fly southwest. Free checked bags and no change fees. Delta isn't a great airline on how they treat their customers.

We just booked a flight for an upcoming trip, and we found the best deal to be JetBlue. They only charge $10/bag when paying at ticket purchase time. While I will use Alaska for Las Vegas, it's not worth the additional time to have a stop on Southwest. It seems like they have very few non-stop flights anywhere, I'd prefer paying $25 for my bag and get where I'm going faster. For one trip I found Southwest to be a total of 6 hours, while Alaska was 2 hours 15 minutes.

OP, I am one of those people that can't stand flying on Southwest for many reasons. I like Alaska and JetBlue. But if you like Southwest and you save money, it works for you. To his/her own.

Alaska has non-stop flights, which many people prefer, they were the first to allow check-in at the gate, rather than at the check-in desk (before curbside check-in was widespread), and they were the only US airline to fly to Russia (LOTS of flyer/bonus miles on their trans-Pacific flights!). I loved Alaska (currently living outside their range), but SW is fine, too. I agree with Mountain Hi about their being able to solve problems in a crisis and get their flights moving while other airlines dither. I've always been impressed with it.

Oh okay... The title just looked as though it could have been a sound bite from a Southwest Airlines commercial...

Because SW made the business decision to position itself as a discount carrier. It's pretty simple. That was their competitive edge. It's no mystery.
They may have lost some of that edge in recent years, but AK isn't the only airline more expensive than SW.

I don't fly Southwest because almost every flight at a convenient time has a stop somewhere else on the way. On such a short flight as Southern CA, I don't want to stop in San Jose, Reno or Las Vegas and add to the flight time. When we go there we don't fly Alaska either. We use Jet Blue, and fly into Long Beach, a very convenient, quiet airport. Luggage is $35 for the first bag, $35 for the second, but $20 for the first of purchased with the ticket. No one in our family ever has a second bag, and the $20 is well worth it to breeze through the airport, and through TSA on the way back.

I'm Flying to San Diego non stop from Seattle tommorrow. Hope to get bumped. SW has very generous payouts for getting bumped. One time I was offered 300 bucks in flying credit to get bumped from Seattle to Albuquerque and did not take it. Should have.
