Hmm, it still sounds a bit high to me. Maybe there was a mistake on the reading for the first bill. It will probably be a clearer picture once you have some more bills to see how it trends.

We pay much more than that but the house is bigger and I have people in the home all day long (so I can't turn the heat really low during the day when I'm at work, etc.).

For a month where nobody is really living in the home, I would expect the base to be much lower than your bill.

kaonever, nice work losing the unnecessary apostrophe. I'm with you, it hurts and my departed English professor ancestors roll in their graves when I do that by accident.
