Seems to be a dirty little secret that Seattle is home to the nation's 4th worse property crime rate. Coming from a "bad" neighborhood which was far worse than anything in Seattle, I find it unbelievable that people put up with this and shrug it off like that's what life in the big city is like.

I thought this map was interesting, showing that the concentration of car prowls is in the North End. Seems like Mayor Murray owes these people an apology for calling them "hysterical" for being upset on Nextdoor.

My neighborhood is considered pretty nice and quiet and all but every time I forget to lock my car door, someone goes through it. They always miss the change compartment-LOL!

We also kept getting our mail stolen. It'd get found in some jerk's apartment 20 miles away or in a Bartell's or whatnot. So my husband converted it to a locking mail box. Annoying.

It's from the SeaStat statistics presentation that the Seattle Police puts out every two weeks. It was posted on Nextdoor by SPD Public Affairs Officer Patrick Michaud.

Ed Murray has made it pretty clear this is all just hysteria driven by nextdoor.

Obviously most people prefer property crime to violent crime, but it would be nice if the property crime could be addressed.
Never park you car along Elliot/Western between Lenora and Blanchard at the curb or in the lot under 99 at when you go to the Market. Almost every day when I pass by there I see a car with a broken window or the broken glass on the ground from a break-in. A co-worker in the north end had her car broken into at her home recently, and it seemed that it's a low priority for the police. Take a report a few days later when time permits, for the insurance. There did not seem to be any followup.

Living on lower Cap Hill near Pike-Pine (when I had a car, late 2000's) and parking on the street, I got a car window broken on two occasions. First time I think they got a flashlight from the jockey box, second time -- not a thing. But of course it cost me a window each time.

I just stopped locking the car.
